20 Halloween Movies for Those Who Don’t Like Scary Movies

A holiday that doesn’t get enough recognition is Halloween (thanks for taking all the glory, Christmas!). But maybe being low key is a part of its charm. Ever since I was little, I’ve been a diehard fan of Halloween. Painting bats, dressing up, trick-or-treating, chewing on bubble gum eyeballs — what’s not to love about the holiday? It seems as we get older, Halloween becomes eerier — and so do the movies. The Changeling? Amityville Horror? No thanks. What happened to the light hearted spooky feeling that comes with jack o’ lanterns, ghouls, gremlins, spiders, mummies, and mischief? Who’s with me?

For those of you looking to get into the spirit of Halloween, but don’t like getting scared, here are 20 Halloween movies to watch instead.

  1. It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (1966)
  2. ParaNorman (2012)
  3. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
  4. Corpse Bride (2005)
  5. Caroline (2009)
  6. Frankenweenie (2012)
  7. Hotel Transylvania (2012)
  8. Monster House (2006)
  9. Halloweentown (1998)
  10. Casper (1995)
  11. Ghostbusters (1984)
  12. E.T: The Extraterrestrial (1982)
  13. Mad Monster Party (1967)
  14. Beetlejuice (1998)
  15. Edward Scissorhands (1990)
  16. Sweeny Todd (2007)
  17. The Addams Family (1991)
  18. Harry Potter Series
  19. Lord of the Rings Series
  20. Pan’s Labyrinth (2006)

The list is endless, but these are some of my favorites. I admit, I went a little ‘Tim Burton’ crazy. What can I say? The man is a classic.

Got a favorite Halloween movie you watch every year that you think we would love? Let us know in the comments below!

Have a spooktacular night-in,
Jennifer
